Please post this one instead of the other deck tourney report.  Thanks
pojo.

This is my first time writing to the Pojo.  Your site is the best
Pokemon site out
there.  Please post this tourney report.  Thanks.
This is a basic haymaker that I played in a recent tourney at Gen Con
here in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 7.  It's the biggest gaming convention in
North
America.

As I started off, I was a little nervous because it was my first
tournament, and it was
DCI sanctioned.  In the event book, it said that there would be 32
participants, so
I'm like, "OK, no biggie, probably all little kids..."  But then the
tickets sold out
within a few minutes and I was lucky enough to get in.

After the tourney was delayed for 50 minutes because they couldn't find
a spot for us Pokemon players to play, they led us to some tables and
that was when I realized
that there were two age groups.  14 and younger and 15 and older.  And
I'm 16.
"Oh joy!  All older veteran Magic players" I thought to myself. Anyway,
Tyler Grund was there with his girlfriend, I had a feeling he would be
there since I told him my
deck and about Gen Con through e-mail.  By the way, I don't know if he
directly copied my deck or that he actually had my deck design, because
mine is soooo similar to his and I sent him my deck list by e-mail, he
didn't send his to me.

There were about 32 in each age level.  It was a Swiss 6 round tourney.
For those
of you who don't know what Swiss is, it's where everyone that has the
same record
throughout each round play each other.  For example, all 1 win-1 loss
players play
antoher 1 win-1 loss player.  Here are my matches.  My deck is listed at
the end.

1st round: Me vs. David Churn (a really nice older guy, been in DCI the
longest out
of anyone there)
He played with a Rain Dance (all-blue)deck.  I played with my Haybaler.

I had to mulligan twice, since I had no basics in my first two hands,
what great luck!
Then I finally got a GOD hand, but I thought I was a dead man since he
already had
a lot to choose from with 11 cards in his hand.  Anyway, since I had his
weakness
and I at one time had all 4 of my Buzzes out at one time, it was a
pretty quick
match.  He kept flipping tails and I kept flipping heads.  I ended up
winning by
getting all my prizes.  I was excited because I won my first game ever
in a tourney.
Match Record 1-0

2nd round: Me vs. Wierd Hair Hippie Guy (sorry to offend him, but I
don't
remember his name, but he had a psychic/fighting haymaker killer with
Mr. Mimes
and Jynxs)
Well, I got a crappy hand this time and since he had my weaknesses, I
thought to
myself that there was no hope.  He ended up beating me when I ran myself
out by
Oaking and Billing WAY too many times.  He had 2 prizes left and 3 cards
left in his
deck and I had 1 prize left.  I LOST BY ONE CARD, all I needed was one
more
turn, but I decked myself.  It was actually a really close game but he
basically
beat me with ER's and Dragonair.
Match Record 1-1

3rd Round: Me vs. Sol Cartier (a really nice guy but he didn't know very
much and
he liked the looks and the cartoon Pokemon more than playing the game,
he thinks
Jigglypuff is the greatest, he had a fire/fighting deck with lots of
colorless, I think)
I crushed him bad.  He had no chance.  He put out his Onix and
Jigglypuffs and kept
stalling and kept putting me to sleep.  And the worst part was that I
would hardly
ever get heads.  Anyway, he was just delaying his death as I took all my
prizes after
killing his last Jigglypuff with a Hitmonchan.  He had 5 prizes left.
Match Record 2-1

4th Round: Me vs. an Asian/Mexican guy (he thought Mankey was really
good, all
he did was keep peeking, he used a fighting/? deck)
He put out 3 Mankeys on the first turn and later got out better ones.
It was a pretty
easy win for me, as I took out his guys fast and hard.  I took my last
prize when he
had 3 left.
Match Record 3-1

5th Round: Me vs. a really nice older guy (he was really nice, I give
him credit, it was
a really close game, he played a psychic/colorless deck using Alakazam
and
Chansey)
His deck was basically a Alakazam/Chansey/Pokemon Center deck.  My
Hitmonchans beat up his early Chanseys and he could do nothing about it
since I had
his weakness.  I only had 2 prizes left when he finally got out an
Alakazam.  He
stalled a long time and he came back and I had 1 prize left and he had
2.  He kept
moving all the damage to his 5 guys on his bench with no energy, then
using
Pokemon Center.  This was really annoying since I was down to a few
cards left in
my deck.  I damaged him for a few turns and he couldn't get any more
Pokecenters
and each Pokemon on his bench had about 20 hp left. But I had 4 cards
left in my
deck, and I knew one was a gust of wind.  That would win the game.  I
picked my
card.  It was a Bill.  I had no choice, I billed got my Gust, gusted up
his Chansey
with 20 hp left and K.O.d it with my Hitmonchan.  I BARELY won that
one.  If he
had one more Pokemon Center I would have been gone.  Alright, now I was
playing
for 2nd place, since by this time, Tyler had already basically taken
first, but he never
had to play the Haymaker Killer guy that beat me, Tyler has the same
basic deck as
I do, so that match would have been close.  Too bad that the guy ditched
after he
beat me.
Match Record 4-1

6th Round (Final Match for 2nd) Me vs. Anthony Stark (I was very scared,
this guy
owns a Hobby Shop and he said all he needed was a 1st edition foil
Scyther for his
1st edition Jungle set, I'm like "Oh great, he has access to every card,
while I had to
at the last minute put together the last remnants of my deck while I was
at the
convention (I never did get all the cards that I needed to my real
deck), anyway, he
was playing the same basic deck idea as me except he used grass and 4
Scythers
instead of electric and 4 Electrabuzz)
He mentioned to me before the match that his only loss was from decking
himself.  I
also mentioned that the same was for me and he said that this would be a
good
match then.  Well, I knew that I couldn't beat him with my deck the way
it was made
to work (fast with Hitmonchans but he had too many Scythers out and I
had no
Electrabuzzes), so I thought that I would attempt to ER all his guys to
death.  The
only problem being, I didn't have any in my hand.  So, he promptly takes
out 3 of my
guys and gets 3 prizes.  I still have 6 prizes remaining.  I finally get
an Oak and get a
bunch of ERs and Super ERs.  I ER all his guys and he begins to run low
on energy.
I take advantage and get 2 of my prizes.  He begins getting energy again
and kills 2
more of my guys, he's down to one more prize.  All of the sudden, the
judge calls 5
minutes left.  I had to hurry.  I looked at his deck, he had Oaked about
3 times and
he only had about 7 cards left.  But as I glanced at his deck, he did
too and realized
he was almost out of cards.  We played a few more turns, he went kinda
slow which
stalled a little bit so he didn't run out of deck cards.  He was kinda
low on energy, so
I put a Chansey out there to stall.  This worked but Chansey was now
down to 30
hp so I retreated him to bring up a Hitmonchan.  We played a few more
rounds until
the judge said one minute left and he had 2 more cards in his deck.  He
picked a
card and only had one more in his deck.  He retreated his Hitmonchan and
put up a
Scyther with 2 energy on it.  My Hitmonchan only had 30 hp left.  I
Oaked and got a
great hand, but I only had about 7 cards left in my deck now.  I put
another energy
on Hitmonchan and did Special Punch for 10.  And there was less than 30
seconds
left so I said done.  He could have stalled more, but he was a nice guy
and didn't
want the game to end in a cheesy way.  So he drew the last card, and it
was... an
ITEM FINDER!  I won, and I would have lost if it was an energy, but
there was
nothing I could do.  I WON 2nd place.
Match Record 5-1

I got 2nd place out of 32 and won 10 Jungle Boosters, not bad for my
first tourney
ever.  Tyler got 1st and got 17 boosters and 3rd place got 6 boosters.
I pulled a
Clefable FOIL, a Nidoqueen FOIL, a Mr. Mime, a Scyther FOIL, a Scyther,
a
Venomoth FOIL, an Electrode, a Flareon, a Kangaskhan FOIL, and a
Snorlax.  I
needed a lot of those cards.

Anyway, on the way out, I picked up 3 packs of Unlimited Basic and
pulled a
Clefairy foil(my 2nd, now I can put 2 Clefairys and 1 Clefable in
another deck), a
Zapdos foil, and an Item Finder (which is a very useful card).

Here is my 2nd place winner (should have been 1st but Tyler didn't have
to play the
Haymaker killer which would have CRUSHED his Haymaker, just kidding,
lol)  By
the way, this isn't the way that I wanted the deck but I didn't have
enough money to
get all the cards that I needed so I had to work with the cards that I
own
