MY DAY AT THE POKEMON LEAGUE, THE SEQUEL
by Dave Fishel

This is my second week at the pokemon league, and it was much improved from
last time.  It was held on 10/23/99, at Futureworld Sports in Santa Maria,
CA.  One improvement was that the rounds were best two out of three matches
instead of just one, and the league was run more efficiently.  However, the
competition for the most part was easy.  Oh well, it helps my ranking.

This time, I once again used my "DaveMaker" deck.  It remained very effective
against most of the stuff that I saw.  It has a little trouble with psychic
though.  I will admit that these reports are very short and not very
detailed.  Part of that is the fact that I am writing this two days after the
league happened, part is that in many of the games, there wasn't a lot to
report on.  I'll give you the deck first, then the results:

Davemaker

2  Item Finder
2  Computer Search

Round 1- Some kid with a strength deck.
Match 1-  This was too easy.  I went first, and sent Kangaskhan with a double
colorless against his Geodude.  Next turn, I lay down another double
colorless and flip three heads on comet punch, running him out of basics.
Match 2-  Don't remember this one much, except for the fact that Hitmonchan
powered through everything.
(Record 2-0, 20 Points)
(Overall League Record 8-0)

Round 2- Bye
I fill out the league activity, a maze.  Oooooh, fun times.  I get credited
with a win and 20 points.
(Record 3-0, 40 Points)
(Overall League Record 9-0)

Round 3- Don't know his name, but he had a good water and fighting deck.
Match 1-  Electabuzz+ Plus Power = Death to Magicrap.
Match 2-  A huge 180 from last game.  Although my electabuzz rips through his
water, his fighting takes care of electabuzz.  I manage to take 5 prizes, but
I decked myself before I could get the last one.  Kudos to him.  We end in a
tie, each getting 10 points.
(Record 4-1, 50 Points)
(Overall League Record 10-1)

Round 4- Todd (Psychic and Plant)
Matches 1&2-  I must have total selective memory, because I remebered this
guys name, but for the life of me, I can't remember the matches.  Its
probably because I won so fast.  I'm very sorry.
(Record 6-1, 70 Points)
(Overall League Record 12-1)

Round 5- Mike (Haymaker with Mr. Mime)
Match 1-  Scyther takes me all the way in this game, for the win.  He can't
get anything capable of hurting me, and he runs out of basics.
Match 2-  Time gets called in the middle of this one, and he is up by a
prize, so he gets a win.  There was extra time and we finished it out, and I
ended up winning the game.  I get a tie though.
(Record 7-2, 80 Points)
(Overall League Record 13-2)

Afterwards, there was a tournament with about 15 people in it.  It was
non-DCI sanctioned, with one match rounds and simgle elimination.  Here are
the results.

Round 1- Daniel (Psychic and Plant)
He doesn't have a very good deck, and I destroy him easily with all of my
guys.  There is nothing much to report on this one.
(1-0)

Round 2- Todd again
See round one of this tournament.
(2-0)

Round 3- Todd's Mom (Psychic)
I get a Kangaskhan with two double colorless energy at the start.  He
regulates everything that she throws at me, while I stall with energy
removals.  Another easy match.
(3-0)

Round 4- Bye
This is really wierd, but cool.  This bye is for the finals, so I am
guaranteed first or second place.  That also means guaranteed money.
(4-0)

Finals- Mike again
This game has gone down as the largest 180 in the history of FutureWorld.
Mike has won the past 4 tournies, although I was only at one of them.  He is
my friend and I know his deck.  He plays Diglett just to beat Buzz.  I am
definitely weak to his deck.  He starts out by taking three easy prizes by
picking off Buzz, Chansey, and Khan.  I oak twice in desperation just to
stand a chance.  Finally, I get a Scyther, which totally changes the game,
along with a bunch of energy removals.  Isn't it just my luck that all he has
is Machops and Chans.  I proceed to rebuild an army of Scythers and Chans,
and go on to take all six of my prizes.
(5-0)

The end result: I WIN!!!  I get $25 in store credit, and the bragging rights
for dethroning Mike.  Thanks for bearing with me on this one.  This is my
longest report yet.  Expect another one next week when I should probably earn
my boulder badge.

Slops:
Shawn for borrowing my Fossil haunter, and not winning the tourney
Todd's mom, for stealing the prize money, and driving 20 minutes away to her
house with it.
Keith, for stealing $250 from the store.

Props:
Dave, the store owner, for having my name, and for making league games best
two out of three.
Me, for winning
Mike, for getting second
Todd's mom for not stealing the money on purpose and bringing it back
