The Pokemon League Event I was in was on December 11, 1999. It was
at the Toys 'r' Us on Greenback Ln. in Citrus Heights, CA. Before I get
to putting down the deck and the report, I should tell you what my decks
style is. My style is to hit and run, which means to hit hard and
retreat for free, then put out a stall Pokemon and let the opponent have
fun with that.
Okay, at the league event, my deck did fairly well with a record of
5 - 2. I used no Japanese in my deck and I faced no one that had a deck
with Japanese in it. My deck consists of:
Pokemon (23)
1 Rapidash
2 Ponyta
1 Magmar (Fossil Style)
1 Moltres
1 Golbat
2 Zubat
2 Scyther
2 Fearow
3 Spearow
3 Ditto
2 Chansey
1 Dodrio
2 Doduo

Trainers (9)
4 Energy Removal
2 Gust of Wind
1 Super Energy Removal
1 Gambler
1 Pokemon Trader

Energy (28)
12 Fire Energy
12 Grass Energy
4 Double Colorless Energy

Let's see if I can remember enough for this report.

In my first match, I embarassed the kid I played. I was lucky to get my
spearow and fearow in my first hand and enough energy to use it in the
followg pick ups at the beginning of the turn. This kid was marooned
with Ratatta's and other low HP pokemon. Another problem of his was that
he also didn't have very many of the Pokemon. So really every Pokemon he
put out, I would knock out in one turn with Drill Peck. He had run out
of Basics by the time I had picked up my third prize.

I skip to my third match bercause my ch was such an embarassing loss,
even I'm not comfortable talking about it. My third match was a
challenge to win. The kid was a challenge to win, and an amazing card
player  someone who is probablyt in second grade. His deck was a mirrior
image of mine. He matched Scyther for Scyther and attack for attack. We
brought it down to just one prize for each. It was his turn and he had a
Scyther out. It had 4 damage counters on it, since he had potioned it on
this turn. He played an energy removal on my Scyther, which had 3 damage
counters on it and a DBL. Colorless and a grass energy on it. He got rid
of my Double Colorless with thgy Removal, and I was marooned withut an
attack Pokemon, and no energy in my hand. Then noticed my Golbat on my
bench, all charged up and ready for battle. He never noticed it , even
with all the energies were showing too. It took the moment, retreated my
Scyther, put out my Golbat, and Wing Attacked to victory.

The next person I faced had a Fighting deck, and it was my time to have
some fun. My deck drives fighting Haymakers and other Fighting decks
crazy, So this was a fairly easy to win. His Onix's d like flies and he
was unable to get out a  Machoke before his Machops were KO'ed too. Over
all, this was a quick victory.

The next notable match was the last match I played that day. The kid was
playing me with a Water and Colorless deck. He seemed to be matching my
blows and I couldn't get ahead. He knocked out my Rapidash, and I
knocked out his Wartortle. It just wennt back and forth until I was
agian in a situation where I had one prize and he had onbe prize. This
where where I make A crutial mistake. I had two energy removals in my
hand and he had out a ditto  and I had out my fearow. My fearow had onlt
a DBL. Colorless attached and 3 damage counters on it. He had a Ditto
active with one energy and a wartortle on the bench with one water and
two other energies of another type that was just a space filler (You
know, when they have say Psychic energies in there deck but no psychic
Pokemon.). H played my 2 energy removals, removing one from both
pokemon, and that was my mistake. then I attached an energy to Fearow
and Agility'ed. The coin fliped tails. He  switched the ditto for free
with Wartortle, attached an energy to Wartortle and bit me for the KO.

That is my report. Overall, I'm open to sugestions because I want to
make my deck the best I've ever used instead of just a nuisance like it
has been. Please e-mail me at jhornberg@macnexus.com and put in the
subject "John Hornberg". Thank You!

Sincerily,
John Hornberg
