Water deck---Rain Trader

Hey Pojo,

My name is Justin Koehn.  On December 19 I participated in an 8 person
tournement.  I used a deck that i have been changing for a while.  Just
recently it began to show real promise.

Date: December 19, 1999
Place: Agents of Comics--Derby, KS
Time: 1:30pm till 5pm
Round Robin
Prizes: 1st $15 store credit, 2nd random rare, 3rd random rare.

The showing for this tournement wasn't quite as good as the last one, held 3
weeks ago, but all the good players were there, so it was still fun.  I was
looking forward to playing all of them when i found out the tournement was
going to be round robin.

My deck consists of:
1 Blastoise
4 Gyarados
2 Articuno
4 Squritle
3 Wartortle
4 Magikarp
4 Bill
4 Professor Oak
2 Energy Removal
4 Pokemon Trader
2 Switch
2 Gust of Wind
24 Water Energy

As hard as it is to find Blastoises, I decieded that traders would still do
the trick and let me bring out the powerhouse.  The only problem this deck
has is decking itself if your not careful enough, and a small little basic
pokemon called Mr. Mime.

The tournement:

Round 1
Me vs Dan

Dan was running an electric/fire deck.  It consisted of Zapdos, Electabuzz,
Ninetails, and a few more pokemon.  The electric suprizingly wasn't much of a
factor during the game.  My Gyaradoses and my Articuno knocked out both of
his Electabuzzes, and a charmeleon.  The Zapdos did some damage and killed
one of my Gyaradoses, but when i traded for my Blastoise, evolved Wartortle
into Blastoise, then oaked to recieve much needed energy, the game was pretty
much over.  After i knocked out his Zapdos, he layed down 4 basic fire
pokemon the next turn.  He didn't want my water pokemon to lay the beat down
on his fire.  I soon killed 2 fire pokemon and the match was over.
(1-0)

Round 2
Me vs Brett

Brett is my best friend and my next-door neighbor.  We play against each
other decks often, but we haven't played since we both modified our decks.
He was running a form of the Power Down deck with Chanseys, Mimes, Scythers,
Electabuzzes, Doduo, Dodrio, and instead of Hitmonchan, he used Magmars.  We
both knew what our decks were capable, and Brett, usually beating me anyway,
was fealing very confident.  I got stuck with a Magikarp in my opening hand
as my only basic pokemon.  I thought the game was over then.  I soon oaked
and found myself with the cards i needed to bring out the whole Blastoise
line within 3 turns.  Things started looking up.  I evolved the Magikarp into
Gyardos, just to buy some time.  Then evolved into Blastoise on my bench.  I
oaked yet again and got plenty of energy, and another Magikarp and Gyarados.
Brett knocked out my Gyarados, but i brought out the fully powered Blastoise.
I then killed an average of 1 pokemon every 2 turns.  Finally I was down to
1 prize card left.  He had a damaged Electabuzz and a damaged Scyther on the
bench.  He brought up the Scyther, drew his card, and behold, he pulled a MR.
MIME.  Oh my God, the only card in his deck that woulda saved him, he drew.
He then stalled me out until i got decked.  BLAH
(1-1)

Round 3
Me vs Marc

Marc was playing a Fire/Psychic deck i helped construct for him.  I have
never lost to him in any match.  This round took only 4 minutes.  The only 2
pokemon he had were 2 Growliths.  My Wartortle made short work of them.
(2-1)

Round 4
Me vs Zach

Zach is my little brother.  He was playing a grass deck that had Venusaurs,
Nidokings, Scythers, and all that good grass stuff.  He drew Bulbasaurs and
Ivysaurs, but i was able to get out Blastoise and Gyarados, and make short
work of them.  An easy victory.
(3-1)

Round 5
Me vs Brad
Brad was playing a decent psychic deck.  Thinks were looking bad with a
fossil Haunter on his side, but i was able to trade for a Wartorle, and then
a Blastoise.  I stomped 3 of his psychic, then he brought out MR MIME.  Thats
ok. I laid down a Squirtle and bubbled him to death.  His last 2 pokemon had
no energy and put up no resistance to my Blastoise.
(4-1)

Round 6
Me vs Court

Court was playing his usual Power Down deck, which he won the last tournement
with.  It is the same as Bretts except it has 4 Chanseys instead of 2
Chanseys and 2 Mimes, and it has Hitmonchans.  I got the worse draw ever.  2
Squirtles and a bunch of trainers i couldn't use.  His Hitmonchans made short
work of my guys, and when i was able to get a Gyardos out, he super engeried
the heck out of it.  Then his Scyther went to work.  Needless to say, I lost.
(4-2)

Round 7 (final)
Me vs Chris

Chris was made fun of so bad this tournement.  While playing Brett, he
scooped up his only pokemon.  Yep, thats pretty embarassing.  Anyways he was
playing a Psyhic deck with some Diddos.  His Diddo did a number on my
gyarados, then also hurt my Blastoise very badly.  I was able to kill it, but
his Jynx killed the Blastoise on the next turn.  Finally i got a fully
powered Gyarados on the bench.  And long behold, he brings out, yep you
guessed it, MR MIME.  I had no basic pokemon that could hurt Mime except a
magikarp.  He gusted up my magikarp and killed it with his Jynx.  Well he got
all of his prize cards, and i just was handed 4th place.  And what does forth
place get?  Nada.
(4-3)

Even though i didn't win anything, my deck did show superiority over the
majority of the decks.  I think with some super energy removals, and 2 more
Blastoises, my deck with me much better.
