It was time for a tourney at Charlotte's Collectable Cards in NC.  This was
on December 19, 1999.... the last tournament of the millenium. ;)  It was
pretty big, around 20 people, and 4 rounds of swiss.

I was with ShockBlade, the name coined from a friend of mine's deck,
"Waveblade."  Laugh if you will, but Jolteon will eat you. ;)

4x Electabuzz
3x Jolteon
4x Eevee
3x Lickitung
3x Gust of Wind
4x Super Energy Removal
4x Energy Removal
3x Item Finder
3x Computer Search
3x Professor Oak
3x PlusPower
3x Scoop Up
20 Lightning Energy

I know you're screaming, "What if they have a Hitmonchan?!"  Around here,
though, no one plays Hitmonchan and everyone plays Wiggly, hence the insane
amounts of Energy Removal.  I used Lickitung because I don't have any
Scythers.  Ah well.  On to the report.

Round 1 : Some guy named Mike with a Jungle Haymaker.

So much for no one playing Hitmonchan.  He started with a Scyther up front
and a benched Hitmonchan.  I start out with a lone Eevee.  He wins the flip
*groan*.  Of course he retreats, plays a Fighting Energy and a Plus Power,
and jabs for the win.  Ugh.  Not a good way to start out a tourney.

Record:  0-1

Round 2: Some 12 year old with a RainDance, I think, didnt get to see much of
it.

I win the flip and turn over an Electa out front and an Eevee.  He turns over
2 Lapras.  I smile.  I Thundershock for 20 and paralyze, his turn.  He plays
a Water Energy and says Go.  I Punch for the KO.  He puts up his other
Lapras.  He Super ERs me with his Water Energy, plays another one, and Water
Guns me for 10.  He doesn't lay anything that can save him, so Electabuzz
hands out the beatings to his lone Lapras.

Record: 1-1

Round 3:  A guy about my age with a Wiggly deck. (Told ya.)

I'm slightly nervous, but I know I can take him with all the ER I'm running.
I get an Electa and an Eevee to start.  He gets 2 Jigglies and a Scyther.  I
groan.  I manage to paralyze Scyther while he's powering up the Jiggly on the
bench, but he can't get it up because of HEAVY Removal on my part.  He
manages to Lass me a few times, but he doesn't get anything good, just a
PlusPower.  I finally get a Jolteon powered up, and Pin Missle through his
remaining Electas, Scythers, and Jigglies (God bless that weighted Chansey
coin.)  He does manage to get a Wiggly powered up and Wave me for 40, but I
SERed it next turn.  I played 4x SER and 3x ER that game in a mad effort to
keep his Wiggly away from me.  I win when I PP Jolteon and flip 3 heads
against his Electa.

Record:  2-1

Round 4:  Annoying.dec , Muk with Potions and Electa and Scyther and Defender

Whew, last round before T8.  I gotta win this one...

And I did.  Everything that he had, I had either a SER or a Gust of Wind
for it.  I love Item Finder.  His Muk was useless against me, and became Pin
Missle fodder.  This match was annoying, because he would use Defenders and
Potions on his Pokes so I couldn't KO them next turn, but it was a moot
point.  He does manage to KO my Jolteon with an Electa, but by then I had
powered up another to Pin Missle for the win.

Record: 3-1  ,  I'm in T8! W00h00!

Round 5 vs This guy with Dittos, Scythers, Electas, and Magmars.

Everyone in every tourney has it:  A game where neither player's luck
goes right.  I had decent draws throughout the whole game, but my coin flips
SUCKED, which is bad considering what the deck is based on.  For example, he
would Smokescreen my Jolteon with Magmar, and next turn I would Flip HEADS
for the attempt, but 4 Tails in a row for the attack, when all I needed was 1
heads to KO his Magmar.  His problem was that he couldn't draw any Energy.
So, I thought I'd stall him, since he had Oaked one more time than me in a
desperate attempt to find energy.  I put Lickitung in the front, sit back,
and wait for him to deck.  Tongue administered Paralysis beatings, and my
Gusts of Winds kept his Ditto against my Lickitung.  He decked.

Top 4 Baby!!  Record:  4-1

Round 6 vs. Dave with TakeEverythingYouHaveAndBeatYouWithIt.dec

Dave is a very cool guy, but around here we call him Heavy, cause thats his
nick on IRC.  He's 14, very mature, a very calm and collected player.
Insanely good deckbuilder.  You see people paired against Heavy, and they
groan and walk sullenly to their table to play him.  I'm afraid.

Just what I thought, I get my ass handed to me by Hyzone.  His Dittos and
Clefables stole my Poke's attacks and smacked me with them.  I think he used
his Clefable to Metronome my Pin Missle more than once;  I got eaten.  I put
Lickitung against his Clefable in an insane effort to stall, but he decks me
out with 0 cards left in his library, but it was my turn to draw and I had 0,
so I lost.

Ah, well, T4 isn't that bad. I didn't get anything, but I got to see the
looks on people's faces when the Eevee that thought was so docile Pin
Missle'd em to death.  Well worth the $3 entry fee.

Thanks for posting this, my Poke Peeps.
