Hey PoJo, Please post this in your Killer Deck Reports Section...

   Hey everyone,

I haven't been to a tourney in a while, and the last one I was in ended
pretty quick for me. So, I am out for revenge and basically that means I am
dusting off what is arguably one of the best decks around," The Poor Man's
Haymaker ". The tourney was held at Gateway Comics and More in Erie,Pa and
there was about 30 people. The reason for the big crowd was it was a special
Christmas tourney, and of course the jolly one made an appearance. I was
thinking about waiting untill after christmas when I would have some more
cards before I came back, but this was a good offer (extra prizes because of
Christmas ). In case you haven't seen my deck here it is...

Poor Man's Haymaker

10 Fightning Energy
15 Fire Energy

4 Machop
4 Charmander
3 Magmar ( Base Set )
3 Farfetch'd
3 Rattata

4 Bill
4 PlusPower
4 Energy Removal
2 Professor Oak
2 Gust of Wind
1 Energy Retreival
1 Scoop Up

This was a single elimination tournament...

Round 1 vs. a mono fighting deck based on Dugtrio

I knew Diglett was a good all around basic, but I always thought Dugtrio
just wasn't worth it. Anyway, I start off with Rattata and a Magmar and he
plays Hitmochan and a benched Diglett. After he had a quick first turn ko, I
was in pretty bad shape with an energyless Magmar. I just happen to have a
Oak in my hand but I try to use the other cards in my hand first, so I end up
gust of winding out Diglett and energy removing Hitmochan. I Oak and get a
Bill, a Scoop Up, and yet another Rattata. I quickly bill and to my pleasure
get one of the major parts of this deck...Farfetch'd. I scoop the Magmar in
favor of him and get a successful Leak Slap, trading first turn kills for
each of us. After everyone's favorite duck was out, the poor fighting pokemon
had no where to hide...

Record 1-0

Round 2 vs. a Speedrill Deck

I have alot of fun playing these decks on Apprentice, but I lose with them
everytime I see quick pokemon. Well, he starts out with  Buzz and a benched
Weedle. I have Charmander and a Farfetch'd. Buzz really does an number on
Charmander, but he is only left with 30 HP. Well, by this time I had a Magmar
benched, while he had a Beedrill and a Voltorb. Buzz finishes off Charmander,
Magmar finishes of Buzz, and he sends out the Beedrill. He evolves to
Electrode and buzzaps, giving a lead in the prizes. He Poison Stings, but
doesn't manage to kill Magmar. This leaves him wide open for the kill, and
all he had left out were measly Weedle's.

Record 2-0

Round 3 vs. a Venusaur Deck

I love the people who think grass is the best type. They all seem to play
mono grass and they really get hammered by yours truly 8^). Anyway, he's got
a Scyther and  I have a very nice hand to go against this deck. I start an
active Charmander and I  bench Magmar and Rattata. Scyther tries to retreat
after a deadly scratch,  but is gusted back out and taken down with Ember.
Poor little Bulbasaurs, and energyless Pinisirs filled the bench, and
provided for six prizes in a  matter of time.

Record 3-0

Round 4 vs. a Charmeleon deck

I know how dangerous certain stage one evolutions can be. Myself, I use a
Machoke Deck (never did get a reply from the deck garage for this one) when
playing around with relatives and freinds. At the start he has Fossil Magmar
(I hate this card) with a Charmander and Growlithe on the bench. I have my
Farfetch'd and a starting Machop.
Machop was doing good against the evil Fossil Magmar, untill that is he got
poisoned. I was forced to retreat to a Farfetch'd that I had just layed one
energy on. Leek Slap would really help here, and sure enough TAILS. Well, now
Farfetch was poisoned and it's my turn. I draw a Bill, and get a Rattata and
a PlusPower. I retreat in favor of the rat, and kill the Magmar. Out comes a
Charmeleonl, but he has to use a double colorless so he can attack (I know,
DC in a mono fire?!). He kills Rattata, but I end up winning the battle with
a team effort to take down Charmeleon, and leaving him with Growlithe's.

Record 4-0

Round 5 vs. a Water / Psy that uses Tentacool ?!

You have to admire anyone who tries to make a origianl deck, but come on
Tentacool?! Well, I was about to find out the hard way that the little water
guy can cause big trouble. He starts out with Mr.Mime, Tentacool, and Abra. I
have a Rattata and a Faretch'd. I start the game off with a quick kill by
gusting out Abra and a PlusPowered bite takes him out. At this time I am
basically day dreaming about how big a Christmas prize would be. His turn is
just a psy energy on Mr.Mime and a new Abra coming out. I start pumping up
Farfetch'd and bite Mr.Mime. All is going well, and then comes out this big
bad Alakazam. Then all I hear for turn after turn is damage swap / timidity.
I start watching my draw pile get smaller and smaller, when I get a Bill, use
it, and draw a Gust of Wind. I retreat Rattata in favor of a Magmar
(at this time I had almost eneryone on the bench), and Flamethrower the
energyless wonder. Since timidity can be used only once a turn. There was no
place for the damage to go and poor little Alakazam was beaten. Leaving this
game wide open, and I took advantage. By the end of this game I had but 5
cards in my draw pile. I really want to shake the hand of the guys who made
this beauty of a deck. I think this will keep stall decks in the game for a
while.

Record 5-0 ( TOURNAMENT VICTORY )

I have only lost one tournament with this deck (it was a while back, but it
is in the Killer Deck section). Today it came through for me like it has so
many times before. For winning, I received the Bodyguard and Brushfire decks,
and my choice of three booster packs. I choose three base set packs (the
one's with Blastoise on it). I always have had good luck with these packs. In
the three the one card I have always wanted was found....CHARIZARD. Man, I
would love a deck with this guy in it. I also got a Venusaur, and a Beedrill.
It was fun getting out to a tournament, and I made out with a good haul (not
to mention a candy cane from Santa). Next time, depending on what I get for
Christmas, we could be seeing a new deck or once again the Poor Man's
Haymaker....

Thanks for your time...
