The Deck:
4 Bulbasaur
2 Ivysaur
2 Venusaur
3 Oddish
2 Gloom
2 Vileplume
4 Kangaskhan
4 Scyther

3 Pokemon Center
4 Energy Removal
1 Pokemon Breeder
3 Bill
2 Gust of Wind

4 Double Colorless Energy
20 Grass Energy

The goal of this deck is to get Kangaskhan out as quickly as possible to
draw cards to get the true offense going.  Use Bills as soon as they come up
and make sure to get Venusaur and Vileplume going to use their pokemon
powers and to deal some heavy smack downs.

The following tournament was held at Comics Kingdom in Beaumont Texas on
Monday the 13th.  There were about 12 people there.  Most of them played
water decks and fighting decks.  The true advantage came for me.  Swiss
style play.

Round 1 vs. Dugtrio/Alakazam deck
This was a scary match for me.  He started with a diglett and I started with
Kangaskhan.  I went first and fetched four times before having him knocked
out by diglett.  I then got Scyther active and developed a Venusaur and
Vileplume on the bench.  I Slashed to k.o. his diglett. He brought in
Chansey to stall for a hopeful Alakazam.  I k.o.'d him in three turns due to
unsuccsesful scrunches.  Then he brought in a fully charged Dugtrio and
Earthquaked.  I retreated Scyther brought in Venusaur and Solarbeamed for a
quick k.o.  He then got an Alakazam out and put a chansey up to stall me
out.  I kept solarbeaming and he kept swapping and pokemon centering his
pokemon.  He then double egded so I had to get Venusaur out for a Vileplume.
I k.o.'d his Chansey to claim the fourth prize.  He brought in a Dugtrio
and Earthquaked him for 70.  I energy transferred and let him go.  I was
almost out of cards.  I k.o.'d his Dugtrio with Venusaur and claimed my
fifth prize.  He brought out a Chansey and swapped and centered for a couple
of turns.  My final turn I drew a gust of wind.  He didn't center in about 3
turns which meant that his pokemon were littered with counters.  He started
to pick up his things as if he won but I gusted in a weakened Chansey for
the k.o. and the victory.

Round 2 Bye

Round 3 vs. Gyarados/Poliwrath deck
This was the most dominant I have ever been with the deck.  I got a great
starting hand.  Kangaskhan, Bulbasaur, Venusaur, Breeder, 1 Grass Energy,
and 2 Bills.  I go first and start fetching and using bills.  He starts with
a poliwag active and a magikarp bench.  Water Gun for ten and I go.  I Breed
to Venusaur and keep fetching until he knocks out Kangaskhan.  By this time
I have a fully charged Venusaur, Kangaskhan, Scyther, and Vileplume.  The
only chance he has is to get rid of my energy which is hopeless.  I bring in
Venusaur to k.o. his poliwag, he brings in Gyarados, and uses dragon rage
instead of Bubble Beam (Fatal Mistake).  I then energy transfer center and
continue with the smack down.  His pokemon never stood a chance as Venusaur
mowed them down one by one to claim the last prize.

Round 3 Bye because the kid left to do homework

Final Round vs. Hitmonchan/Electabuzz/Dodrio deck (store owner)
This is one of the greatest deck concepts I have ever seen but it wasn't
enough to hold down the grass smack down.  His deck consisted of 4
Hitmonchan, 4 Electabuzz, 4 Doduo, and 3 Dodrio.  The idea of the deck is to
get out Dodrio Electabuzz and Hitmonchan quickly.  Free retreat and quick
power usually spell doom for many.  However, in our match it was Hitmonchan
against Scyther.  I went first swords dance, and he goes.  Gets Electabuzz
and starts charging him up.  I attach a double colorless and Slash.  He gets
another Hitmonchan and attaches an energy to Electabuzz.  I energy remove
both of them and slash for the k.o.  He brings in another Hitmonchan to get
some energy on Electabuzz and I knock him out in three turns, but not before
I take care of some more energys on Electabuzz.  He brings in his Electabuzz
and I start to fear because I have no more basics on my bench.  He has no
energy so I go.  I get a Kangaskhan and start developing him, and slash for
30.  He gets an energy and thundershocks with no paralysis. I get another
energy on Kangaskhan and slash for another 30.  He goes and thunderpunches
my Scyther for 40 and puts another Electabuzz on the bench.  I slash for the
k.o. and he knocks me out with his other Electabuzz.  I attach a double
colorless to Kangaskhan and get the full 80 from comet punch for the k.o.
and the win because he had no basics on the bench.
