Bleh...hey folks. Sorry I haven't done a mech job in a while..I'm afraid I got slapped down with a particularly nasty flu bug...but now, feeling a bit better, Tashi is back to fix your decks! :) The deck today comes from a friend from the Pojo EzBoard and someone whom I met at WCSTS 2, Coryace Jolteon. His deck overview is very well written, and worth a read. Here it is: >>>> Heya 'Tashi, I'm hoping you don't mind that I waste your time by dropping you an email...=) Anyway, you may remember me making a massive fuss back in the days before the WCSTS about Brock's Ninetales being 1337 and how using SI Vileplume in it was a pretty good suprise attack against Gatr. Anyway, after playing the deck at the STS and seeing some promising results with SI Plume, I left the idea on the backburner, focusing my efforts more on Brock's Ninetales. After seeing your deck, with Dark Vileplume as the main hitter, I was reminded of Vileplume being an interesting card to work with. I decided that Brock's Tales wasn't the best way to go about it because Pichu and co. run rampant in Modified, so I went with the normal evolution line. After looking at Neo 1 Gloom and Rocket Oddish, I found that it might just have some promise as a Modified alternative deck. Pokemon-17 4 Oddish (Rocket Expansion) 4 Gloom (Neo 1, until I find a better option) 4 Vileplume (Southern Islands Expansion) 2 Cleffa 3 Murkrow Energy-15 11 Grass 4 Dark Trainers-28 4 Prof. Elm 2 Sabrina's Gaze 3 Secret Mission 2 Misty's Wrath 2 Chaos Gym 3 Imposter Oak's Revenge 3 Rocket's Sneak Attack 2 The Rocket's Trap 4 Double Gust 3 Focus Band That was the off-the-top-of-my-head version that was developed. I started to talk to various friends about the deck and fixing it because I didn't want to release it to Pojo quite yet. I felt that it was pretty rough, and that mostly I'd be bashed for proposing such a different idea. The concept was lots of disruption with SI Plume's status working behind you to keep them down. After working with Flareclaw, Repicheep, DarkAmpharos182, and BondiBorg, I came up with another (I like to think better version), that focused the Trainers more and cut back on some of the frivolities to make the deck more stable. Repicheep and Flareclaw tried to get me to use Pichu, but I just never liked it. It seems like it would take too many consecutive hits from Pichu to take out Slowking or Gatr, so I didn't want to play it. DarkAmphy and BondiBorg pointed me in the direction of the current DoomPlume, with the idea that I could run 1 Dark Gloom and 1 Dark Plume to play in emergencies to stop Gatr or level the field against Slowking. That brings me up to the current version: Pokemon-16 4 Oddish (Rocket) 3 Gloom (Neo 1) 3 Vileplume (Southern Islands) 1 Dark Gloom 1 Dark Vileplume 2 Murkrow 2 Cleffa Energy-15 10 Grass 3 Dark 2 FHE Trainers-29 4 Elm 4 Double Gust 3 Gold Berry 3 Misty's Wrath 3 RSA 3 IOR 3 Sabrina's Gaze 2 Chaos Gym 2 Focus Band 1 Boss's Way 1 Rocket's Training Gym The strategy is pretty straightforward, turbo Plume to status them and disrupt all the way. Rocket's Training Gym takes out Chaos if I need it, and makes status harder to overcome. The nice thing about Plume is that after a Horrid Pollen they essentially have a 25% chance of attacking, and it takes out Gatrs in two hits, putting the odds in my favor. Dark Plume can be useful in many situations, but is to be used carefully. It hurts to have it out at the wrong time. Double Gust and all free-retreaters (except the evo line) allows me to pick off threats as they build. If you decide to fix it (I hope you do =P) I'm looking mainly for two things. First of all, an overall fix like you'd normally do, and 2nd, a frank appraisal of if a deck of this kind could possibly do well in Modified, or if I'm wasting my time. Thanks for wahtever time you spend on it, Cheers (and happy gaming), Cory >>>> Well, Cory, you're off to an excellent start already. SI 'Plume is indeed a card not to be looked down upon, and that second attack sure is nasty. However, I do see some things that could use some work. First, the Pokémon selection. We won't be taking any of them out, but we will be adding some in. Remove the three Sabrina's Gaze for a third Cleffa and a Smeargle. The Cleffa should be pretty much self-explanatory, and the Smeargle should be included to watch your back in case Big Fire shows up. Keeping with that, make sure that Dark Vileplume is non-holo. ;) Moving onto the Trainers now. We still have one spot left, so let's add a third Focus Band. Vileplume's 70hp really is pretty low, and Gold Berry isn't usually going to cut it. That said, I'd ditch the 3 Gold Berry for 3 more Grass Energy-I myself have begun to playtest a Dark Vileplume modified deck, and as much as it looks like it's possible, no Vile-Dark or not-can survive on 10 Grass. Other than that, this deck looks good. Nice work Cory. :) Sorry the fix is so short today folks-hey, have pity on the sick meh, eh? ;) Good luck and happy gaming!
