Eelektross (Plasma Blast)

We finish the week with a look at Eelektross and I must say that 5ban Graphics have done an excellent job on this card, making the Pokémon look powerful as well as colourful – it’s just such a great pose.

Can the card itself live up to the artwork? Eh, not so much. Crush and Burn is like a cut-down version of Magnezone Prime’s Lost Burn attack. You discard as many Energy from all your Pokémon as you like, and do 30 damage for each. Back when Magnezone was doing 50 for each card, three were enough to OHKO anything, now poor Eelektross has to discard double that amount if it wants to knock out an EX. Sure you can partner it with Blastoise to get the Energy you need on the Field, but then why not just use Keldeo EX or Black Kyurem EX and one-shot stuff for less Energy using a Basic instead of this Stage 2?

Thunder Tempest is hilariously expensive and luck based. For four Energy, you get four coin flips for 50 damage each. Yep, you could get very lucky and score the big 200 but, again, Black Kyurem EX. Need I say more?

There’s some potential here for a League/fun deck, and it would have worked a bit better if Dynamotor Eelektrik wasn’t rotated, but there’s no point dwelling on that. Eelektross is too needy and too luck reliant to really be worth considering.

Rating

Modified: 2 (nice art, shame about the attacks)

Limited: 2 (lack of workable combos, and Stage 2s are tough to use)
