Carracosta (Plasma Blast)

So, now that Restored Pokémon can be brought into play without trusting completely to blind luck (thanks to Caitlin and the Prehistoric Call Ability), is it worth using something like this Carracosta? Make no mistake, there are still somewhat more of a pain to use than regular Stage 2s, so Restored Pokémon are really going to have to deliver to be competitive.

Carracosta does have something to offer. Fossil Clutch is a solid attack for one Water Energy and a Double Colourless. It may only have a base damage of 50, but if you discard a Fossil Item card from the hand, that becomes 100, which is a decent return. It’s definitely a better attack than the bland 80-for-4 Waterfall, but unfortunately, using it repeatedly means clunking up the deck with a lot of Fossil Items that only have a one-time use. If the attack worked with the Restored Basics that return to the deck from the discard pile, then we might have had a semi-competitive league/fun deck on our hands.

Basically, Carracosta makes you jump through too many hoops just to get a two-hit KO on an EX. The Grass Weakness (Genesect) and massive retreat cost don’t help its cause either. It’s a nice idea, but a long way short of being viable in the competitive arena.

Rating

Modified: 2 (only play if you really love turtles)

Limited: 3.5 (if you pull enough Items, could be really good)
