Jigglypuff13 9/14 Battle Tower (SV)

Hello, and welcome to the beginning of a new week, of which we start of with one of 2 new Stadiums in SV, it's Battle Tower! It has a simple effect, whenever plays a Pokémon to level up one of their Pokémon, they can remove 4 damage counters from that card. Not bad. 4 Damage counters is a lot, and removing them could mean the different in being KOed next turn or not. Of course, you actually have to be able to level up an important Pokémon to make it useful, so just running Uxie Lv.X (LA) in your deck probably isn't enough to justify the use of this card. However, decks that rely on their Lv.X's like Luxape probably can justify it. Still, most of the decks in this latter catergory probably have Stadiums that are much more useful in the deck, so Battle Frontier will be a tech slot or secondary choice really.

Ratings:

Modified: Not a bad card, depends a lot on the deck, but really, there is generally going to be a better stadium for any deck, though again, the better stadium depends upon what deck you are running. 2.5/5

Limited: If you manage to get a Lv.X here and you manage to get the normal form as well here, then you probably won't be able to get out in most of your games. Once, maybe, but more than that will be tough. Still, the healing would be useful, but not enough to warrant a space in your deck. 1.5/5

An interesting stadium from the new Supreme Victors Set.

Level up and remove damage counters? Sounds like a good idea to me!!!

But, if you use Level Max, it doesn’t work. Not used often, but could be important.

Second, in this age of one hit knockouts, removing the counters isn’t always huge.

I really like the Championship Arena (one less retreat for SP Pokemon) and Team Galactic’s Hideout (2 damage counters when you evolve) over this one for the power SP decks, and even for the Level X type decks that are out there.

Ratings…

Modified 2.5/5 Good for some very few decks.

Limited.1.5/5 If you really get to level up this is huge. Not many people will!!!

Good luck at Battle Roads this weekend! The road to Hawaii starts SATURDAY! We will be at GameNite in South County Mall.

Registration 10:00 am!!!

Battle Tower

Stadiums seem to have gained a bit more popularity over the last few sets as more useful ones have been printed (especially Broken Time-Space), and people have discovered new combos that use them (such as Stark Mountain/Rayquaza in Luxray/Infernape). This week, we kick off with a couple of new Stadiums from Supreme Victors. Will either be good enough to see play at a Battle Roads near you?

The first one up for review is Battle Tower. The effect of this Stadium is extremely simple: when either player plays a card from their hand to Level Up one of their Pokémon, they get to remove four damage counters.

Pretty good, right? That’s a double Potion, just for having a Stadium in play, and LV Xs are pretty widely played (Luxray GL, Baziken FB, Infernape 4, Flygon, to name but a few).

Well . . . maybe not so much.

Most times, if you are Levelling Up, you will be using a Pokémon freshly promoted from the bench so, unless you are playing against spread or snipe decks, they will most likely not be damaged anyway. If your intention is to switch the Levelled Up Pokémon (if it is a tech you want on your bench like Heatran or Cresselia) then the damage won’t really matter.

However, there may be a use for this card in a Tank Dialga G deck, where both the Basic and LV X operate as your main attacker, and you try and keep them from being KO’d with Special Metal Energy reducing the damage they take. Here, Battle Tower would allow you to heal a slightly damaged Dialga G and may save you a PokeTurn and a Galactic Switch or two. Even here though, the card is extremely situational, and there may be better options (Snowpoint Temple, Conductive Quarry) for your deck. You could also run it in a Rayquaza C deck . . . it may slightly increase Rayquaza’s chances of ever using its attack.

Rating

Modified: 2 (Seems nice, but of limited use and not as effective as you might think)

Limited: 2.25 (If you pull a LV X and can use it . . . )

Steel_Winger Welcome back to the Pokemon COTD!

We start this week off with Battle Tower, one of the new Stadiums from Supreme Victors. When it is in play, a Pokemon heals itself by 40 whenever it is Leveled Up from the hand.

Personally, I don't think this card has that much value.

Sure, there are plenty of Level X Pokemon out there, but they don't make up a majority of the deck (unless you're running AMU). Not to mention the fact that your opponent can benefit from it as well, and it doesn't work if the Pokemon levels up due to Level Max, since it wouldn't be from the hand. This card would see some use with a lot of the SP Pokemon, but they have a lot of better options such as Poke Turn or maybe even Bertha's Warmth. If you're going to play a Stadium, I would suggest something that helps out more than 2-4 Pokemon in your deck or hinders the opponent.

Ratings:

Modified: 1.5/5 There are plenty of Stadiums out there that can really help you depending on which deck you're using. This particular one would be near the bottom of that list.
Limited: 1.5/5 Even with the LV. X ratio supposedly upped in this set, it's still hard to pull one, meriting less use of this card. If you do manage to pull one, then kudos, and use this for an added advantage.

This is Steel_Winger, until next time!
