OK, now that we have determined that there is a decent Yanmega out there, is this the right Yanma??

Maybe.

First, it is a “Shining” Rarity card, which have been more than disappointing. Most often, such as Relicanth, the shining card is worse than the “natural” card. Can you imagine the value, and the increased sales if Relicanth Shining was the good one?

This Yanma does not scream “you have to play me!!!” 70 HP, weakness to Lightning, resistance to fighting. Retreat cost of 1. All not good. Nice HP, but a meaningless resistance combined with a horrid weakness in this envio. Bleh.

Attacks, 1 for 10, not affected by weakness or resistance. Who cares?

3 for 30 and switch the energy…if you have to power this thing up with 3, the game is most likely almost over anyway. Leave 2 energy on it and I will laugh.

Ratings…

Modified…1.5/5 May be the best way to get to Yanmega.

Limited…2/5 Sometimes you DO power up bad basics for 3 energy and they don’t get KOd here!

There you go…see you on Saturday for the Battle Road Finale at B&B in St. Peters!!!

Yanma Lv 22

Oooh! A shiny!

Apart from the shiny Duskull and Vulpix which have seen some play, shiny cards tend to be for binders only.

As a Basic, Yanma isn’t bad. 70 HP for a non SP Basic is good. Weakness to Lightning is horrible (mainly due to Luxray GL), and Resistance to Fighting is more or less irrelevant as Machamp will just use Take Out. The first attack, Sonicboom, does 10 damage regardless of Weakness or Resistance, which is pretty meaningless. Its second, Baton Pass, is an underwhelming 30 for [G][C][C] attack, but at least it lets you Retreat Yanma and move the energy on to another Pokémon.

Like any Basic, Yanma’s playability is determined by how good its Evolutions are. The shiny Duskull and Vulpix see play because they evolve into Pokémon that have a place in some decks. As there are no really good or useful Yanmegas in the format, the only place you will likely see this card is in people’s binders, next to shiny Swablu and shiny Lotad.

Rating

Modified: 1.75 (ok for what it is, but there aren’t any Yanmegas that make it worth using).

Limited: 2.25 (saving Energy and free switching are nice, but even in limited, the damage output is weak)

Guy Todays card up for review is Yanma. Yanma is a 70 hp basic, which may cause it to avoid some sniping. But the main reason for playing Yanma is to get Yanmega out. It is tough to rank Yanma because of this, but Yanmega definitely has potential to be combo'd with a few big grass attackers out there.

Modified: 3/5
Limited: 3/5 - if you have Yanmega
