Charon’s Choice

Charon’s Choice is a unique Supporter from Rising Rivals which is designed to make Rotom decks work.

What is so unique about it? Well, just for once, it pays to read the small print on this Supporter. Like all Supporters, it says: ‘You can play only one Supporter each turn. When you play this card, put it next to your Active Pokémon’, but unlike every other Supporter, it goes on to say ‘When your turn ends, put this card into your hand instead of discarding it’.

How useful is that? A Supporter that you can re-use EVERY TURN!

The effect of Charon’s Choice is obviously meant to make Rotoms a fast deck which can always hit for Weakness, as it allows you to switch your active Rotom with any Rotom in your deck. Facing a Fire deck? Go and fetch Wash Rotom. Having trouble with pesky Grass Pokémon? Just play your Charon’s Choice and get a Heat Rotom into play. Allowing you to remove Special Conditions is a bonus, but unfortunately the damage counters stay, and this is a real drawback considering the low HP of the Rotoms. It is important to note that they don’t cover all types either: many Pokémon are weak to Fighting and Psychic Pokémon, and sadly these Rotom types don’t exist (I don’t know what appliances you could use for them . . . Psychic Crystal Ball Rotom?).

Charon’s  Choice is a great card, but not great enough to make Rotoms anything more than a very difficult to collect ‘fun’ deck.

Rating

Modified: 2 (in a Rotom deck, it gets a 5, but Rotoms are rubbish)

Limited: 1 (it’s a Secret Rare, so no way are you pulling this AND Rotoms at a Prerelease)

mew2master

Yo, mew2master in the house. Its been awhile, ive been train my mew and mewtwo for awhile. Anyways today it charon’s choice. ( it kind of reminds me of trainers choice.)This really doesn’t work either way. Switching one rotom out for another one in your deck is not that good. Well Its not good if it’s a mow rotom or a wash rotom and you switch it out for a fan rotom. Especially when that wash rotom has 80 damage its a knock out for that poor rotom. Also all the energies get transferred either, and all the rotoms are really compatible with each other. So I don’t suggest it either way especially in a limited

Rocket Boss

So after an unneeded and annoying brake, Rocket Boss is back!  The first COTD we're looking at this week is a good tie up for last week's theme the was Rotom, Charon's Choice!

The truly interesting part about this card is the stray from the normal supporter text which instead reads: You can play only one Supporter card each turn. When you play this card, put it next to your Active Pokémon. When your turn ends, put this card into your hand instead of discarding it.  An  interesting adjustment, making the ridiculous task of accumulating enough Rotom cards to build a deck around just a little more worth it... a little.  Now that we've covered the interesting part we'll move on to the part that's only interesting if you've had the opportunity to acquire the ridiculous amount of Secret Rare cards that would merit using this card in any deck... being able to switch Rotom forms is cool, but only if the impending type change/advantage would be worth it, and then you also need to make sure you have the proper type and number of energies attached to Rotom and that you don't get Power Sprayed...

If you manage to make a Rotom deck then maybe there would be a home for one of these cards in your deck... maybe... otherwise...

Modified- 1/5

Limited- 1/5 (Honestly... how many people pull 3 secret rares in their opening 6 packs to use this??)
