Pojo's Pokemon Card of the Day

Rocket’s Suicune ex - TRR

Date Reviewed: 01.14.05

Ratings & Reviews Summary

Unlimited:
Modified:
Limited:

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating.

Jermy101 Rocket's Suicune ex is another mediocre ex Pokemon from RR. 100 HP is blah and 90 damage to stage 2's is nothing special. You can attach darkness for more damage, but you would need 3 darkness to OHKO all the 120 HP stage 2s. So it is not worth it.

Unlimited - Weak to ER and SER. I would rather use Base Gastly. 1/5

Modified - Too much effort to do a good amount of damage. 2/5

Limited - It is good here. Special conditions are everywhere, so if you get a Dark Metal Energy and a Suicune ex you won't get hurt by any of those special conditions. Hyper Splash doing 50 for WCC is pretty good too. 4/5

Rocket’s Suicune – I’m going to make this one simple. I love the artwork and the Poke Body name: Dark and Clear. Not a real big factor in Unlimited or Modified so I’m not even reviewing those formats but Limited is another story.

Limited: 4.5/5 – One of the best Pokemon-ex for draft in this set. If you can pull a Dark Metal special energy then I’ll rate it a perfect 5 for its Dark and Clear Poke- Body. If not, then it can simply win you games before your opponent even draws a prize.

Icy Wind –1C for auto sleep and 10 damage is a real nice start or stall move later in the game.

Hyper Splash – 2W 1C: 3 for 50 is solid enough but if you are going up against a Stage 2 then the amount of damage Suicune is dishing out is insane!

Rocket’s Suicune – I like this card vs. most decks being played today. Most decks being used right now rely heavily on stage 2 pokemon to do most of there attacking.

HP: 100 is the worst HP an EX pokemon can have. With desert ruins running around in most decks not affected by it 100 HP hurts. It’s high enough that you must take 10 damage between each turn and low enough that you won’t last long against it. You must have counter stadiums if you plan to play this card.

Weakness/Resistance: well, weakness to electric is not all that bad but you have to watch out for those zap-turn-dos decks that are being played right now. It does not have resistance to anything so we will move on.

Retreat: With a retreat cost of one you can afford to pay it. Pretty standard for a basic.

Type: darkness is an ok type right now with Dark dragonite running around but only a few pokemon have weakness to dark. The best advantage to playing dark is nobody has resistance to you, though this card would be more helpful if it was both darkness and water type though.

Poke-body: Dark and Clear says as long as you have a darkness energy attached to it, it can not be affected by special conditions. Most people will run this with darkness energy to add damage but this poke body is just great. No poison or paralysis is a good thing.

Icy Wind 10: This attack is very strait forward. 1 energy for 10 damage and putting them to sleep. You’re not going to use this attack unless you’re still powering him up or you need to stall. Either way you’re not going to win any matches with it.

Hyper Splash 50+: Now this is the reason you would play this card. For 2 water and a colorless you can do 50 damage plus 40 more if they are a stage 2. Like I said above stage 2 pokemon are very common in the current format so you could be doing a lot of damage. Then if you add darkness energy you could be doing 100 for only 3 energy! Not bad if you ask me.

Combos: Rockets hideout will give it 20 more HP. You HAVE to play counter stadiums with this card and I think rockets hideout is a good one but it depends on what else you play.

Darkness energy: you should all know this. add 10 damage and no special conditions makes darkness worth playing.

Ratings: In unlimited I think it may take too long to set up. Electabuzz could also be a problem 2.5/5

In modified I don’t see this card being the main focus of your deck but it could be a very powerful supporting pokemon. Like I said 90-100 for 3 energy is very powerful if used correctly. I give it a 4/5

Today's card of the day is Rockets Suicune Ex from the Team Rocket Returns set.  Let's get right into it-- a retreat cost of one is pretty cheap and the weakness to electric is understandable.  The Poke Body is really nice to be unaffected by a special condition is really helpful.  As for the attacks, for one colorless energy, 10 and automatic sleep is pretty good.  As for the second attack, it's not too bad but the only problem is most stage 2 Pokémon have a 100HP and up, so it would take about two hits to knock them out. Overall, this card is not terrible but there's a lot better stuff to play, so I would just leave this card in the binder or in a fun deck.
