Pojo's Pokemon Card of the Day

Milotic - team

Date Reviewed: 8.20.04

Ratings & Reviews below

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating.

Johnny Blaze MILOTIC– Let me start out by saying that this card is my absolute favorite artwork in the game right now out of every English set that I have seen thus far. This card was really good before Feebas’ Ascension was errated to include a flip to coincide with the Japanese version. It’s still good with its Poke-power, but the errated ruling has made it a big liability now to start with only a Feebas. Just remember that the Poke-power is very situational. It heals every Poke on the field except for EX’s. So at times it will benefit your opponent.

Unlimited: 3/5 - The new “Pokemon Center” for Raindance without the energy discard. Also give it a try in Damage Swap. Many possibilities, but the best is in good ole Raindance.

Modified: 3.5/5 – Like I said earlier, Milotic’s power is very situational. The best use of its power is when you are facing an active EX and your opponent has little damage to their benched Pokemon and you have a non-Ex active attacking. It also combos well with Mr. Briney’s Compassion. And with the rampant rampage of Fire pokes in this format it doesn’t hurt that Milotic has type advantage.

I would also like to touch briefly on its 2nd attack, Distorted Wave. At 1st many kids think that this attack does only 50 damage. That is not true. You heal the active defending Pokemon for 30 then it deals the full 80 damage. This can make a difference in many situations. Again this attack is situational and best used when the defender has no damage counters on it.

Limited: 2/5 – Prior to the errata I would give it a 4, but since Feebas’ Ascension is now a flip, it becomes a huge liability to start with a 30 hp Pokemon and thus the rating of a 2.
