Late last year, we posted a note about upcoming promo cards that would be available. The information was apparently not accurate. Here is everything that we know (and speculate) about the "promo" cards from Wizards of the Coast at this point in time: All of the "Promo" cards discussed here are new to the game, and have a special expansion symbol (a star with the word Promo in front of it.) This list only covers these "Promo" cards. It does not cover other promotional cards (like Gold-Bordered Meowth, or E3 Pikachu, etc.) This is what we (and you probably) KNOW: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Promo #1 is Lv16 Pikachu. ("green leaf Pikachu" or "3D Pikachu") This card was FIRST released in Japan. It was included in a special edition of Hyper-Corocoro comics. It was printed in english, and has the english (WOTC) back, but it does NOT have the number "1" in the lower right corner (and it has the no-shading artwork and "99" in Nintendo's copyright). Later, this card finally came to the U.S. It was first found in random Jungle booster packs (it wasn't supposed to be there, but WOTC confirmed that a miscollation occurred that caused this). Eventually this card was released en-masse through the Official TCG League in the Fall of 1999. It has the number "1" in the lower right corner. Promo #2 - #5 are the Warner Brothers Movie cards (Lv20 Electabuzz, Lv60 Mewtwo, Lv13 Pikachu, Lv43 Dragonite) These cards also have a gold-stamped insignia in the upper-right corner of the artwork, and were released in the Fall of 1999 at Pokemon, The First Movie. Promo #8 is Lv23 Mew (Devolution Beam Mew) This card was released through the TCG League in January 2000. This is what we KNEW: -------------------------------------------------------------------- WOTC had a page at their official site that listed the first 8 cards in this "Promo" set. It has been altered now and all information below the Warner Brother Movie cards has been removed. However, this is what it used to say: Promo #6 was another Mewtwo card that was going to be released in the January 2000 issue of Nintendo Power magazine. This didn't occur. Promo #7 was Jigglypuff that is given away through a mail-in offer available in Pokemon, The First Movie soundtracks. Promo #8 is Mew that is given away at the TCG League. This is what we SPECULATE: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok. Looks like that list was correct about Mew being #8 eh? So, I suggest that Jigglypuff from the soundtrack will still be #7 (even though NO ONE that I know has received their card yet!) AND! I think that #6 will be a Mewtwo (there are a few other promo Mewtwo cards in Japan that are not translated yet) given away in: "Pokemon Trading Card Game for Game Boy Color". This is a new GBC video game that Nintendo reports will be on sale on April 10, 2000. Nintendo is advertising that this game will include an exclusive promotional TCG card with every cartridge. I'm (now) betting that this will be elusive Promo #6. Finally: -------------------------------------------------------------------- We don't work for Wizards of the Coast. You knew this right? We are an UNOFFICIAL news source. We do our best to scour the net/ papers/airwaves/etc etc etc to stay on top of Pokemon info. We LOVE learning about new Pokemon stuff! and we know that you do too! We aren't making this stuff up, but sometimes things change on us. I wish they wouldn't, but we have no control (or warning) when it does. Use this disclaimer to gauge everything you read... (not just in PoJo, but in all of the unofficial Pokemon websites). In the end, we all end up as more informed and more intelligent consumers. (rather than waiting around for the "official" sites to update :-) Brian Brokaw
